SPIRIT OF THE SONG 08 Congrats to the champion team........ SELBY In the spirit of working together to achieve a goal, we are now launching into the Spirit Of The Song. There are a number of links (below) which you will find useful and interesting. During the choir sessions held on Mondays we will sing and learn the words to two songs; You’ve Got A Friend and Just One Person. Your House will come together and present both songs in a competition-type environment. The senior students with their House leaders will look to doing the organisation of their House – lining up and general placement – in a staged presentation in the hall. Each team will be split into two groups, placed either side of the screen. Each team will be required to project two PowerPoint slides – one for each song (in the theme of the song) Each song will be introduced by two or three team members, using a song outline brief provided as the source of their “introductory” speech. A panel of five teachers would have a criteria sheet against which the performances would be studied (one criteria for each teacher). In short, all teams would receive positive re-enforcement through comments and a winning House would be recognised as the Spirit of the Song recipients. The House leaders would be required to present a prepared thankyou at the conclusion of the competition. Learner Profile The five elements described below will be the criteria elements against which the teams will be marked. KNOWLEDGEABLE: Each team member knows the words by heart and sings the tunes intended! All students know where to stand and how to move. COMMUNICATORS: The structure of the slides and the oral introductions shows creativity and imagination, while explaining the theme for each song. Students understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. PRINCIPLED: The focus here is on the House leadership and senior students. They act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and Houses. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them. CARING: The focus here is the House as part of the audience. They show empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of the other Houses through their responses and support. RISK TAKERS: The placement of the choirs shows ingenuity and flair. The opportunity will exist for House leaders to share some basic choreography for the team. WHEN? Friday Week 4 Term 3 Commencing at 9:15am and concluding at 10:00pm August 15 WHERE?
